About
Our Story
Hi there!
I’m Icasia, the heart behind Small Bites Patisserie.
This little venture began in 2020, during the global COVID-19 lockdown. The pandemic hit the hospitality industry hard, and I was no exception. Being made redundant only a month into a new job was tough—but it also became a turning point for me. After months of job searching with no luck, I decided to turn to something close to my heart: baking.
It all started with cookies — just Nastar and Kastengel — which I sold to friends and relatives. The encouraging feedback I received, along with the incredible support from my local church community, motivated me to keep going. And here we are today!
As someone who moved from Indonesia, I struggled to find the nostalgic Indonesian snacks and sweets I missed from home. That’s what inspired me to expand beyond cookies and offer a wider variety of cakes, snacks, and savouries — many of which are beloved treats from my own childhood.
At Small Bites Patisserie, you’ll find classics like:
Lapis Surabaya (or Spiku, as we call it in Surabaya), Bolu Keju (Indonesian-style cheese cake), Donat Kentang (fluffy Indonesian potato donuts), Risol Mayo (deep-fried savoury crepes filled with mayo), …and so much more.
If you’ve been supporting us since 2020 — thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness and loyalty mean the world to an online small business like mine.
And if you’re new here — whether you’re Indonesian or simply curious — I hope you’ll enjoy these treats as much as I love making them. Welcome to our delicious little corner of the world!
Warmly,
Icasia
